Queremos compartirles el discurso que Gustavo Pérez Reyes B. Gobernador RI - D 4400 - 2017-2018 dio en la Ceremonia de Ascenso e Investidura De La Brigada De Scouts Marinos De San Francisco Del Cabo “Alm. Germán Yépez” 2018:

We want to share with you the speech that Gustavo Pérez Reyes B. Governor RI - D 4400 - 2017-2018 gave at the Promotion and Investiture Ceremony of the Marine Scouts Brigade of San Francisco Del Cabo “Alm. Germán Yépez ”2018:

¿Quiénes son los rotarios? Rotary nace en Chicago en 1905, como una respuesta de la sociedad ante las mafias de gánsteres, Capone, Luciano, Tataglia, se forma como una corriente de ética, y honestidad destinada a viabilidad negocios.  Con el fin de los gánsteres,  Rotary empieza su transformación, hasta llegar a ser la organización de servicio que es hoy.

Who are Rotarians?

Rotary was born in Chicago in 1905, as a response of society to the gangster mafias, Capone, Luciano, Tataglia, is formed as a current of ethics and honesty aimed at business viability. With the end of the gangsters, Rotary begins its transformation into the service organization it is today. Estos ideales  de amistad y servicio, la han convertido en estos sus primeros 113 años, en la más grande organización solidaria, no gubernamental y no religiosa.

These ideals of friendship and service have made it in its first 113 years the largest non-governmental and non-religious solidarity organization.

Estamos en 203 países, somos 1,2 millones de rotarios, agrupados en más de 35,000 clubes, y ahora con más de 550,000 jóvenes en sus programas de Rotara e Interact.

We are in 203 countries, we are 1.2 million Rotarians, grouped in more than 35,000 clubs, and now with more than 550,000 young people in their Rotara and Interact programs. Rotary está organizado en programas,  son llamados Programas Estructurados, son 9 programas de Rotary,  y otros tres más de La Fundación Rotaría.

Rotary is organized into programs, they are called Structured Programs, there are 9 Rotary programs, and another three more from The Rotary Foundation.

De los 9 programas, 5 son para rotarios y 4 para la juventud. Los programas de Rotary, están orientados a crear relaciones internacionales. Conocernos con gente de otros países, que viven otras realidades, eso nos permite  hacerles conocer nuestra necesidades, y buscar  ayuda para nuestras iniciativas en  favor de las comunidades menos favorecidas.

Of the 9 programs, 5 are for Rotarians and 4 for youth. Rotary programs are geared towards creating international relationships. Getting to know people from other countries, who live other realities, that allows us to make them know our needs, and seek help for our initiatives in favor of the less favored communities.

Hay 4 programas dedicados a la juventud, Rotaract, para jóvenes de 18 a 30 anos, los seminarios Ryla, el Interact para jóvenes hasta 18 anos, donde Uds. Participan,  en el que ya es uno de los clubes Interact mas grandes de Sud América, hoy creo que pasan a ser el más grande, y el otro programa en que también han participado es en el de Intercambio de Jóvenes,  con sus dos intercambios a Brasil.

There are 4 programs dedicated to youth, Rotaract, for young people from 18 to 30 years old, Ryla seminars, Interact for young people up to 18 years old, where you participate, in which it is already one of the largest Interact clubs in South America Today I think they become the largest, and the other program in which they have also participated is the Youth Exchange, with their two exchanges to Brazil.

Uno de esos programas estructurados son las Agrupaciones de Rotary, estas agrupaciones, están formadas por rotarios de diferentes países, que tienen intereses comunes, comerciales, o simplemente aficiones, como es el caso de la International Yachting Felowship of Rotarian, que agrupa rotarios de todo el mundo, que comparten la afición por la navegación.

One of those structured programs is the Rotary Groups, these groups are made up of Rotarians from different countries, who have common interests, commercial interests, or simply hobbies, as is the case of the International Yachting Felowship of Rotarian, which groups together Rotarians from all over the world. the world, who share a love for sailing. En la organización,  las obras sociales las realizan los clubes, que son autónomos, seleccionan una comunidad, estudian sus necesidades, diseñan soluciones, y las implementan apoyándose en La Fundación Rotaría, o en clubes amigos locales o del exterior.  Las agrupaciones de Rotary, no tienen como fin, hacer obra social, y no tienen la oportunidad de financiar un proyecto con LFR, para acceder a fondos del exterior deben hacer el proyecto a través de un club rotario.

Rotary groups do not have the purpose of doing social work, and they do not have the opportunity to finance a project with LFR, to access funds from abroad they must do the project through a Rotary club.

Sin embargo, las Agrupaciones, no están impedidas de hacer obras, pueden hacerlas, pero con recursos propios, o apoyándose en los miembros de la agrupación del exterior, como agrupación repito,  no tenemos acceso a financiar los proyectos con LFR.

However, the Groups are not prevented from doing works, they can do them, but with their own resources, or relying on the members of the group from abroad, as a group I repeat, we do not have access to finance projects with LFR.

No todas las grandes obras requieren grandes capitales para ser ejecutadas, pero siempre se requiere un líder con decisión, solidario, y creativo,  no siempre se trata de dinero,  todos podemos dar los que somos, dar de nuestras capacidades, dar de nuestras relaciones, dar de nuestro tiempo.

Not all great works require large capital to be executed, but a decisive, supportive, and creative leader is always required, it is not always about money, we can all give who we are, give from our abilities, give from our relationships, give of our time.

Hasta hace 5 meses, fui Gobernador del Distrito 4400 de RI, que abarca todo el territorio del Ecuador,  es un cargo por un año, y una de las obligaciones es visitar a todos los 64 clubes del Distrito. 

Until 5 months ago, I was Governor of District 4400 of RI, which covers the entire territory of Ecuador, it is a one-year position, and one of the obligations is to visit all 64 clubs in the District.

En esas visitas, los clubes te enseñan sus obras, te presentan sus planes  y proyectos, así conocí lo que hacen los clubes en el país, y cada visita fue una sorpresa, encontré obras de las que no sabía nada, obras grandes, con mucho impacto en las comunidades necesitadas, como miles de operaciones gratuitas de labio leporino, cataratas, estrabismo, pie zambo etc., en todo el país, una fábrica de prótesis, a la que han incorporado tecnología 3D en Ibarra, una ancianato en Quito, recolección de basura en ríos y martes del club de Puyo, y entre las destacadas, aquí muy cerca en Muisne, el proyecto Villas de la Alegría del club Latitud Cero, y aquí mismo, los filtros de agua, que a propósito son más de 100 en el país.

During those visits, the clubs show you their works, present their plans and projects, that's how I got to know what the clubs do in the country, and each visit was a surprise, I found works that I didn't know anything about, great works, by far impact on communities in need, such as thousands of free operations for cleft lip, cataracts, strabismus, clubfoot, etc., throughout the country, a prosthesis factory, which has incorporated 3D technology in Ibarra, a nursing home in Quito, collection of garbage in rivers and Tuesdays of the Puyo club, and among the highlights, here very close in Muisne, the Villas de la Alegría project of the Latitud Cero club, and right here, the water filters, which by the way are more than 100 in the country.

Obras de las que no había oído hablar y fueron una grata sorpresa,

Works that I had not heard of and were a pleasant surprise,  De las obras en San Francisco del Cabo, si había escuchado hablar, conocía de la existencia de los Scouts Marinos, del proyecto de transformar una comunidad desde los jóvenes. Si la conocía, pues es  una obra que se ha difundido en las reuniones internacionales del Distrito y de nuestra flota.  Y, aunque conocía de la obra, igualmente ha sido una muy grata sorpresa estar aquí  por primera vez, y ver lo que estamos haciendo.

From the works in San Francisco del Cabo, if you had heard about it, you knew of the existence of the Marine Scouts, of the project of transforming a community from the youth. If you knew about it, it is a work that has been disseminated at the international meetings of the District and our fleet. And, although I knew about the work, it was also a very pleasant surprise to be here for the first time, and to see what we are doing.

El líder de la obra, Marcelo, cada reunión rotarla expone nuevas ideas, presenta nuevos sueños, y como empresario que es, sabe que para que los sueños se hagan realidad, hay que dejar de sonar y trabajar,  incansablemente.

The leader of the work, Marcelo, every meeting rotates it exposes new ideas, presents new dreams, and as an entrepreneur, he knows that for dreams to come true, you have to stop dreaming and work tirelessly.

Esta es una obra en la que Uds., jóvenes,  son los verdaderos protagonistas, donde Uds., mas que beneficiados, son los que están involucrados, una obra para nosotros, concebida solo como una participación,  los grandes protagonistas son UDS. Jóvenes, El proyecto es muy ambicioso, cambiar la realidad de toda la comunidad, a partir del cambio en Uds.

This is a work in which you, young people, are the true protagonists, where you, more than benefited, are the ones who are involved, a work for us, conceived only as a participation, the great protagonists are YOU. Young people, The project is very ambitious, to change the reality of the entire community, from the change in you.

Que se necesita para seguir adelante, necesitamos su compromiso, su entusiasmo, su constancia, su disciplina, su compañerismo, su solidaridad, con estos valores tienen todo lo que necesitan, diré necesitamos, pues el ver que Uds., los ejercen es lo que nosotros necesitamos para seguir apoyando su avance.

What is needed to move forward, we need your commitment, your enthusiasm, your perseverance, your discipline, your companionship, your solidarity, with these values they have everything they need, I will say we need, because seeing that you exercise them is what we need to continue supporting their progress.

Con una buena respuesta de su parte, nos mantendremos apoyando esta comunidad. Comunidad que ya es un ejemplo que se busca repetir en varias flotas y comunidades en otras latitudes.

With a good response from you, we will continue to support this community. Community that is already an example that is being repeated in several fleets and communities in other latitudes. Termino mi mensaje, felicitándolos por lo logrado hasta ahora, y repitiéndoles un famoso discurso en la Universidad de Princeton: no se rindan, no se rindan, no se rindan.   

end my message, congratulating you on what you have accomplished so far, and repeating a famous speech at Princeton University: don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.

Recuerden siempre,  que no hay que ser mejor que otro, pero hay que ser mejor cada día.

Always remember that you don't have to be better than someone else, but you have to be better every day.
